Have you written a business plan?

17 March 2008 No Comment

Many businesses fail in the first year because of a lack of planning. This can be avoided however with the proper tools. It is important for all entrepreneurs to outline all of their business goals for the first five years in writing. These five year projections should include information about the target market, company structure, company management, primary products and services, and financial projections. The written goals should also include fund raising projections if capital is needed to launch the venture.

By completing one document all of this information can be contained in one place. Every entrepreneur must complete a professional, comprehensive business plan. There are lots of free business plan templates out there, but there are also consultants that will complete these plans for you. Hiring a consultant can be expensive ranging in price from $1,000 USD- $2,000 USD. When hiring a consultant to complete a business plan, it is important to make sure you view samples of their work. Every plan must include certain elements, as mentioned above.

If you are planning on starting a business, a business plan is a critical element. Often times in the process, you will also learn what elements of your business venture are realistic and feasible. These plans can typically take between three to six months to complete. To secure funding from a bank, angel investor or a venture capital firm, a plan will be a requirement.
